Montreal Startup Ecosystem Portrait

Written by:

Montreal NewTech is joining forces with Bonjour Startup Montréal to renew the Montreal Startup Ecosystem Portrait. In 2016, the Montreal Startup Ecosystem Portrait was consulted by many, especially in the city, and the great work that had been accomplished inspired many political actors to invest in the ecosystem. This year we’re renewing the experience, but with an ecosystem perspective to reach as many community members as possible.

So make your voice heard, contribute to the success of our ecosystem and complete the survey!

Introducing “The Pitch” by MTL NewTech

This May 21st was the 3rd Canada-China Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum 2019 in collaboration with MTL NewTech. We’re delighted to announce its huge success, that saw some of the best presentations and discussions around future technologies between China and Canada. The key takeaway: Canadian entrepreneurs shouldn’t underestimate China as competition or as an essential future marketplace.
A Demo Night hosted by ours truly saw 10 stellar startups present their projects in a tight competition. The lucky winner was rewarded a round trip flight to China to meet and visit with:

  1. 20+ venture capitalists
  2. 5+ Science Parks/Innovation Centers
  3. Roadshow in 4 major cities
  4. 1 hour of consulting service in regards to exploring the Chinese market

A huge prize just for one winner! This is an excellent opportunity to share with you the best startup of China-Canada Demo Night and we’re stoked to introduce you to a new section of our Newsletter:

The Pitch Where bold and inspiring projects in Montreal’s ecosystem will be offered the opportunity to showcase their Why? How? and What? of their product or service. This framework is inspired by the Gorden Circle of Simon Sinek.

And the MTL NewTech Demo Night Winner was…

Montreal NewTech team awarding One Silicon Chip Photonics as winner.

One Silicon Chip Photonics — The Pitch:

“We deserve a worry-free safe drive both in the air and on the ground using our optics-integrated technology. Precise, reliable motion sensors for self- driving cars and drones”.

AI4Good Montreal Edition — Conference & Hackathon

Everyday, non profits and charities are facing tangible challenges providing essential services to the most pressing issues in our communities. Data and AI will be a huge help to make them not only understand better the crucial needs of the members they are supporting, but also bringing tangible solutions to better streamline their operations everyday. And that’s where you have a fantastic opportunity to make a difference!

Through TechAide, we are organizing a Conference to inspire and connect non profits, researchers and enterprises alike around pressing subjects that AI can solve in our society. And on the weekend, we’ll all roll-up our sleeves to brainstorm and figure out the best ways charities can execute by helping them to leverage data science and AI to better our society.
Whether you’re curious to learn more or are a student or practitioner of AI, don’t miss this unique opportunity to make a difference!

Salon International de la Femme Noire

Written by:

“The Salon International de la Femme Noire it’s a platform that highlighted Black Women who shine in the shadow through discussion panels, interactive workshops and exhibitors.

It is important to see ourself through this society in which we live and belong. To see that we also contribute here. Unfortunately, we don’t see that very often and some groups are under-represented such as Black Women. In order for the Black Woman to emancipate herself, she must be able to identify herself with black female models of success so that she becomes a citizen involved in Quebec society. That’s where we come in”.
